6 Home Remedies For Acne During Pregnancy
Most women experience acne during pregnancy that tends to appear in their first or second trimester. This is generally caused by an increase in the hormone androgen that can get your skin waxy and oily. Here are some home remedies that help with acne during pregnancy.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is great at absorbing and drying out oily patches. Soak a cotton ball in unfiltered apple cider vinegar and apply to the areas. You can also make a natural toner by combining one part apple cider vinegar with three parts of distilled water.
2. Citrus fruit
Citrus fruits such as lemon or lime contain astringent properties and hence work wonderfully for acne. When applied to your skin, it unclogs pores and does away with any dead skin. They are antibacterial in nature and can be used as a natural exfoliant. Use lemon or lime juice directly on acne spots to see immediate results.
3. Baking Soda
When mixed with water, baking soda can be used as a drying out paste for your acne. It dries out the excess oil and also promotes healing. Mix water and baking soda at a one to one ratio for your own DIY spot treatment and apply individually on spots.
4. Coconut Oil
We tend to avoid other oils or oil based products on our skin when we have oily skin, but this doesn’t apply when it comes to coconut oil. Coconut oil soothes the skin and is absorbed easily by any skin type. Its antifungal and antibacterial in nature. Use it as a moisturizer before bed or before your base of matte makeup.
5. Oatmeal and Cucumber
The two are known for their cooling properties and work amazingly when used as a mask. Cucumber by itself can also be used as a toner and oatmeal as a natural exfoliant. Combine the two together in a blender for a mask and store in the freezer. Apply for 15 to 20 mins and see the results immediately.
Honey is great as a moisturizer and a skin lightener. It's antibacterial, as well as antiseptic and hence, can be used in a variety of ways. After a thorough cleanse, apply honey on spots and let it sit for 15 to 20 mins. Wash off with warm water. It will lighten any scars and nourishes your skin at the same time.
