6 Hair Care Habits That Are Ruining Your Hair

We love taking care of our hair. Whether curly, straight or wavy, long, short or cropped, it gives us a personality of our own and we feel stylish, beautiful and confident letting our hair down. But with our busy lives, taking care of our hair has become more and more difficult.

What can make it worse is taking care of your hair the wrong way. We’d never realize we were even making mistakes, but watch out for some of these mistakes in your hair care routine:

Combing your hair wrong

It is very important to brush or comb your hair. It helps you remove tangles and massages your scalp, stimulating it and keeping it healthy, making it a very important part of our daily hair care routine. But when your hair is wet, it is very sensitive, and combing it will only break it. So avoid combing your hair right out of the shower. It is actually better to detangle your locks before you wash it, so that your hair won’t tangle while shampooing.

Washing your hair too much - or the wrong way

Keeping your hair clean is crucial, but you don’t need to wash it everyday. Washing your hair everyday will strip your hair of the natural oils that keep it healthy, and may lead to dryness, itchiness and dandruff. Limit your hair washes to 2 or 3 times a week. Use shampoo after you wet your hair with warm water, rinse, and follow it with some conditioner, but only on your ends.

Towel-drying your hair

When you rub your towel on your wet hair, your hair may break. The towels are too rough for your hair, and even if you use them, try not to rub your hair. Do hair care right - dab your hair dry instead. Even better, keep an old cotton tee shirt aside for just this purpose - it will be more gentle on your locks and sometimes even reduce frizz.

Heat-styling your hair too much

Everyone’s probably already told you this - using heat to style your hair is really not good for you. Try to avoid using blow-dryers, straighteners or curling irons. Keeping your hair natural is the best hair care! If you must use heat, make sure to apply heat protectant or serum before you use it.

Using too many products

Hair care doesn’t have to be so complicated. All you actually need is shampoo and conditioner, and if you feel like your hair needs more, you could always try something at home. Using too many products on your hair can lead to product build-up, making your scalp itchy and leading to hairfall.

Trying to ‘repair’ your split ends

Split ends cannot be repaired. The way to get rid of split ends is to trim them off. And if you want to avoid cutting off too much hair at once, then get trims regularly. Trim your hair once every 3 or 4 months to control your split ends.

So watch out for these mistakes and avoid them as much as you can. Let your natural hair thrive, and make it easier for you to take care of your hair. Beyond hair care, you also need to make sure you’re eating well and drinking enough water. How many of these mistakes are you making?
