When trying to lose weight, the first thing that comes to mind is how we have to cut down on carbs and fatty food. Working out 3 times a week is a must but not being able to eat what we like makes us feel demotivated. This is why I want to share my secrets for losing weight.

More vegetables and exercise is the only way to lose weight, right? Wrong! You don’t have to give up food to lose weight. The list also includes foods that will make your meals more alive and tasty. So grab a plate, and get munching! Here’s what you should include in your meals:

1. Coconut oil

Yes, we know the diet craze has been all about replacing your oils with olive oil. But not all of us can afford to buy the golden oil so why not replace them with something inexpensive and locally available? Using coconut oil to cook not only adds a nice flavour to your food, but it also helps avoid belly fat. It might take some time getting used to the taste of coconut oil, especially if you’re not a fan. I used to cringe at even the thought of using coconut oil in my meals. So I introduced it slowly. Mix it with the oil you normally use, and gradually increase the ratio of coconut oil to your regular cooking oil. After a certain period of time, you will find that you actually prefer cooking with coconut oil - a much healthier and cheaper option.

2. Eggs

In order to lose weight, you need to ensure that your body gets the right amount of protein and fats. Eggs contain both protein and fats along with other nutrients like iron, vitamins, minerals and carotenoids. This is why a boiled egg is the perfect thing to snack on after a proper workout. I've seen how having an egg with breakfast keeps me feeling full for longer and also gives me enough energy to get through the day. So make sure to have just one egg every morning. There are so many ways to prepare the egg that I don’t think you will ever get bored of it - scrambled eggs, omelette (fried in coconut oil/olive oil, of course), poached eggs and boiled eggs. You can even include them in recipes like pancakes and cutlets to make them a whole lot tastier - the best part is that the kids will love it too!

3. Multigrains

Now you might be wondering why I am mentioning all the things that you thought you are not supposed to be having in order to lose weight. Contrary to popular belief, it is these foods that will help you on your journey to lose weight - provided you maintain an active lifestyle. If you consume a lot of fats, proteins and grains, the body will burn up these stores first. Thus, it will help speed up the weight loss process. Rather than limiting your body to just one type of grain, try to include a variety of grains in your meal. 5. Fruits

Research has shown that those who consume more fruits on a daily basis tend to be more healthier than those who don’t. Although fruits contain sugar, they also contain plenty of fibre which means that the sugar won’t be released that easily into the bloodstream. You could add a bit of mascarpone cheese to your bowl of fruit. People who are intolerant to fructose should avoid eating fruits, as should the people who are on a ketogenic diet or a low-carb diet. The others are free to indulge in healthy and delicious fruits. So if you are allowed to eat this sweet treat while on a diet, why aren’t you trying to eat healthy yet?

6. Chilli pepper

Do you love eating spicy Indian food too? Then you are going to love this. Chilli pepper is known to help you on your quest to lose weight. It is known to help reduce your appetite and increase fat burning. So consider adding a bit of extra chilli to your meals. Note that this won’t have much effect on those who are accustomed to having spicy meals every day since their bodies probably have a tolerance to it. Those who have less spicy meals can consider making it more spicy. As an added bonus, chillies are also known to improve your mood as they help release endorphins - the feel-good hormones.
