6 Breastfeeding Hacks Every New Mom Should Know

Breastfeeding is the best choice a mother can make for her baby’s health. But, it can feel confusing or tough when you don’t have enough guidance to get you through it. As a new mom, you must know some hacks that can really make a difference to your breastfeeding experience.

1. For Comfort

It’s important to remember that soft, loose and comfortable clothing can help you take care of your tender breasts and irritated skin. Wearing a nursing-friendly shirt can also make breastfeeding your baby easier and more convenient. Avoid wearing too many layers of fabric that can irritate your skin.

2. For Breast Leakage

Breast leakage usually happens with no warning, so it’s good to be prepared. Wear nursing pads or bras with nursing pads as they help you avoid messing up your clothes. Carry extra nursing pads when you’re heading out so that you can change damp pads and maintain hygiene.

3. When You’re Unable To Breastfeed

After a long, exhausting day, a good night’s sleep is essential to help you recover from delivery as well as have enough energy to look after your little one. Use a breast pump to express milk, so that your husband can feed the baby at night, allowing you to get some rest.

Pumping excess milk can also help you relieve engorgement, which can be really painful and in severe cases, make breastfeeding difficult.

4. For Your Skin

When you breastfeed, your skin around the nipples can get dry, irritated and cracked. Soothe cracked nipples with a good nipple cream, which helps to heal the skin and give you relief. You can also use a warm or cold compress to help with the pain. Use warm water while bathing, and avoid using any soap or other products on your breasts as they can dry the skin and irritate it more.

5. For Breastfeeding In Public

Your baby can get hungry when you’re out and you’ll end up having to breastfeed in public places. Find a place with minimal noise or distraction. If you want to feel more comfortable, use a nursing cloak which can give you some privacy.

6. To Make Clean Up Easier

Breastfeeding can get quite messy, and your baby will often have milk dribbling down their chin. Make clean up easier by putting a bib on your baby while breastfeeding, as this can help you wipe away the mess as and when you feel the need.

Breastfeeding is not easy, but it’s the best choice for you and your baby. If you don’t have the time to go shopping for these essentials, you can shop for them from the comfort of your own home, with Flipkart’s breastfeeding store, so you can spend more time bonding with your baby!
