Remember the times when our parents and grandparents used to tell us those stories of yonder? Those stories we grew up hearing and yet, never got bored of them, as they all had some hidden meaning or a moral in them. Though we didn’t understand it at that time, when we grew up, we understood what it meant.
Like us, our children need these stories as well and so, we have come up with our list of 6 best moral stories for children.
1. The Boy Who Cried, Wolf
The story about a boy who used to lie about things so frequently that when he actually got into trouble and asked for help, no one believed him. This story has a fundamental, yet strong message that lying will always get you into trouble. It’s a story that children will both enjoy and understand.
2. Tale Of The Tortoise And Rabbit
An evergreen classic, a tale installed so deep in our mind that every time we see a tortoise or rabbit, it just pops back up. The tale gives a powerful message that slow and steady will always help you win the race and that one must never be overconfident. Your child is sure to enjoy this one.
3. The Honest Woodcutter
Another classic, the story talks about an honest woodcutter whose axe falls into a pond and how a fairy tests his honesty and subsequently rewards him. The story conveys the message that no matter how much we are tempted, a person must always be honest and he/she will be rewarded for it in due time.
4. The Lion And The Mouse
This classic story tells the tale of a mouse and a lion. When the lion spares the mouse’s life, the mouse swears to repay the debt, and even though the lion makes fun of the little mouse, the mouse ends up saving the lion from a hunter’s net. The story has not one but two morals - first is, you reap what you sow and that good deeds never go unpaid, while the second moral is that never underestimate anyone no matter how small they are. This story will definitely leave its mark on your child.
5. The Bundle Of Sticks
A somewhat forgotten classic, it elaborates on the importance of unity and togetherness in every field, be it family, friends or country. In this story, an old man tells his children to each pick a stick and break it, which they all easily do. Then he takes the same number of sticks, ties them and then tells each of his children to break the sticks, which no one is able to, thus giving the moral of the story - if friends or loved ones stick together, no one can break them.
6. The Thirsty Crow
One of the most prominent stories, it tells the tale of a thirsty crow who comes across a long jug of water that is only half full. When the crow tries to drink from it, he is unable to reach the water and is left thirsty. Being clever, he slowly starts picking up stones and putting them in the jug, thus increasing the water level. The crow finally quenches his thirst.
The moral of this story is that where there is a will, there is a way. It will definitely inspire your child to find new and innovative solutions for all their problems.
We hope that these stories will help you in teaching important moral values to your child by becoming a fun and entertaining medium. Don’t forget to share it if you like our list.
