In the beginning, your baby only gets nutrition through your breastmilk or the baby-formula you’ve been using. But as your child grows, you get to start weaning him off these and start feeding him/her things with more nutrition which is necessary for growing babies as they’re developing quite fast. Here are some first foods you can try to start with.

1. Banana

Fruits are a great way to start your baby on food that doesn’t consist of breast milk or baby formula. Banana is a good fruit to start with, especially in puree form, as it lines your baby’s tummy and can aid in digestion to make it easier for your baby’s body to get used to it. It can also be made with a couple of tablespoons of baby rice.

2. Avocado

Avocado is another great thing to feed your baby. It has essential nutrients for your baby and it’s easy to digest! You can simply mash up the avocado and add breast milk or formula to it. It doesn’t ever require any cooking!

3. Baby Cereal

Baby cereal or baby rice is a good food to start your baby off. You can make a porridge out of this by boiling the rice in water and letting it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remember to puree it afterwards if needed. You can also cook these with lentils to add flavour and protein.

4. Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is healthy and tasty and a great way to start your baby off on solid foods. They’re easy to digest and to make. Again, the best way to feed this to your child is to puree it or mash it, depending on the consistency your child is comfortable with. Just peel the sweet potato, cut it up, boil it, puree it or mash it and you can use the water used for boiling to thin the sweet potato to the consistency you require. You can also use breast milk or baby formula for this.

5. Vegetable Puree

Carrots, squash, broccoli, spinach, and tomatoes. You can make Carrot and parsnip puree or broccoli and cauliflower puree or potato and spinach puree. Just steam the vegetables and then put them in a blender when they are tender. On the other hand, you could always just mash them up with a fork or spoon for a thicker consistency.
