Beauty is pain and sometimes beauty is downright strange. If you follow any of the latest fashion and beauty trends (floor length sleeves or wiggly eyebrows for example), then you know what I’m talking about. But before we diss those posts that tell you to dip your face in ice cold water, let us at least consider the possibility that some of them do work. Here are a few such strange yet effective skin-care hacks. But really though, are they stupid if they work?
1. Slather some curd. Not on your rice, we mean on your face.
We’ve all had a sunburn at least once in our lifetime. Maybe it was when you spent way too much time on the beach or your skin is just too sensitive to bear even a little bit of afternoon sun. Whatever the case is, sunburns are probable and they’re horrible. Instead of going the expensive route with cosmetics and stuff, apply a generous layer of curd or plain yogurt on your face and let it stay for about 10 minutes. Follow this up with an aloe vera moisturizer. This will create a natural skin barrier between you and the sun and will protect you from further sunburns.
2. Inner AND outer cleansing = green tea
All of us know how healthy green tea can make you. It flushes your body of harmful toxins and also helps in reducing weight. You might even notice that your skin is becoming clearer with everyday consumption of green tea. But did you know that green tea can be used for other things than just drinking? If your skin is breaking out, then gently press a tea bag that is soaked in some hot water on the affected area. It reduces redness and also brings the under-the-skin pimples onto the surface, making them easier to deal with.
3. Who needs an expensive toner when you have ACV?
Cleanse-tone-moisturize, that’s the golden rule for great skin right? Well, allow us to guess the step you most likely skip all the time - tone. But in our heads it makes sense - we cleanse to get rid of dirt, we moisturize to keep our skin plump and dry-free, why should we tone? Toner is used to balance out the pH levels of your skin which are usually haywire after washing your face. But GOOD toners are expensive. You can totally DIY a Toner by mixing equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. This is just as effective and balances out your skin perfectly.
4. Blackheads = Lemon, Whiteheads = Tomato
When you get to know your face up close and personal, you’ll notice a lot of blackheads and whiteheads, especially around your nose. You’d probably squeeze them out or use those strip pores that frankly look like they’ve been designed by the devil. Why not use a simpler and relatively much much painless technique like applying lemon with some sugar sprinkled on it every night to get rid of blackheads. Tomato juice is known to work wonders on whiteheads (although they’re barely noticeable)
5. A Diaper rash cream is multifunctional.
If you’re a mom and have diaper cream in your house, did you ever think you could use it for something other than your little one’s tush? Well, turns out you can. A diaper rash cream is really hydrating and moisturizing, so it’s perfect to be used on cracked heels and elbow. Basically, if you have dry skin patches or just dry skin in general, you can use it as a daily moisturizer.
