Your child might not have the right words or even the inclination to say 'I love you' to you, but your kids are definitely always doing something that is telling you they love you. You may not even notice it sometimes, but your kids can be unusually adorable and absurd, and sometimes even profound when they show that they care about and love you.
Of course, nothing can be more precious than when your kids say “I love you” to you, but here’s something that might match up to it - times in which your kid might just be telling you that s/he loves you.
1. Being Independent
Yep. When there are times when your kid tries to do things independently, you might take it to mean that your kid is trying to be a rebel or mean, but it’s not that all the time. Be it refusing to let you comb their hair or walk them to school, they’re definitely not trying to push you out of their life. They are actually the kid’s way of saying, "Thank you for teaching me so well; now I can do it on my own," otherwise known as, "I love you."
2. Tantrum? Really?
When a kid throws a tantrum, it’s one of the hardest things to deal with. Whether the baby is 6 months old or 6 years, tantrums are never fun. But, recent studies show that tantrums are not just tantrums. Those fits of anger and hurt don't mean that your child has stopped loving you. Actually, they show that your child feels secure enough with you to show his/her true feelings with you when they’re hurt or angry. They trust you with their deepest feelings, and if that isn’t love, then what is?
3. Shouting 'Welcome Home!'
Ever experienced the feeling when you walk into your house, and your baby comes running at you with its arms wide open, and screaming a happy cry that can be heard at the road? Well, the baby is screaming because they’re happy to see you! When kids begin to trust adults, they believe adults when then say they’ll go and come back. When you do, they’re really happy and scream at how happy they are!
4. Giving you something handmade
Your baby obviously can’t buy stuff for you, but s/he definitely can give you things s/he loves to show you they love you. It might be a chocolate they really wanted to eat but gave to you instead, or a carefully drawn picture, or a bunch of roses they found on the way back home. All these are the kid’s ways of trying to tell you they’re thinking about you!
5. When they show you
Words aren’t always the only mode of communication. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words. When your kid snuggles into your lap, lays her/his head onto your shoulder - they’re expressing more than what they can convey with a single ‘I love you’.
Cherish the moments your kid offers you, because they’ll never be a child again. :)
