For every mom who’s just had a baby, the moment the baby comes home is like a time of reckoning. It’s incredible that this cute little bundle of cuteness was just in your belly for nine months and is now actually in your hands - it seems almost unbelievable!
If you’re becoming a mother for the first time, it comes with its own set of challenges. Being a mother is not easy - but a mom is expected to know what to do as soon as she’s given birth to her baby. Now, we know how confusing it can be to figure some stuff out. With all the baby feeding, cleaning and taking care - you might face many struggles along the way. It is especially tough during the first couple of weeks that the baby comes home, since s/he needs all your attention. You need to keep the following things in mind for when your baby first comes home -
1. Let out those emotions
Being a mother is overwhelming - physically, mentally and emotionally. You’re constantly switching between feeling stressed, angry, tired and then back to being stressed. It’s so important during this time to let your emotions flow. Holding them back will only make it worse. Once you find an outlet, you will feel much better and much lighter.
2. Sync your sleep with your baby’s
One of the most popular problems that moms complain of is not getting enough sleep! Imagine waking up every single night to feed your baby and putting it back to sleep - it’s going to take a toll on you. Try to schedule your baby’s feeding and napping time, and try to find time in between when you can catch up on some sleep yourself.
3. Take care of yourself
Be it taking a nap for half an hour or meditating for a while, try taking out some time for yourself during the day. In the big mess of taking care of your baby, you’ll sometimes forget that you need to take care of yourself too. Ask your partner to babysit your kid, and take a step back and relax. You need it.
4. Take help if you need to
There will always be people willing to help you out when you need them, do don’t hesitate to ask for help. If finding a balance is becoming hard, then ask for help from your parents or in-laws, or friends and relatives. And when they offer help - don’t just say no immediately. You’re already a super-mom, you don’t need to prove it too!
5. Just remember - you’ll be awesome at this soon!
Everything is hard in the beginning - including being a mom. You’re new to this, and this new role may take some time getting used to. But before you know it, your kid is going to grow up and be a big boy or girl, and you’ll start to miss the time they were toddlers! So enjoy and spend time with your baby, make memories for a lifetime and shower them with all the love and attention you can give them!
