Every parent wishes for their child to be attached at their hips. But this is not always the case especially as your child grows older, it might almost seem like you’re growing farther apart too. But this is a salvageable situation so you don’t have much to worry. Just take of the following things and in no time you’ll have your little one emotionally and mentally close to you.
1. Love shower
You might have an immense and intense love for your child but your child has no way of knowing this if you don’t translate that into your actions. There are not enough ‘I love you’s and ‘I miss you’s in this world. When you see your child first thing in the morning or before you send your child off to school, hug and kiss. This will comfort them and they’ll always think of you as a safe place.
Who doesn’t love surprises? Especially for kids because they get tired of the same monotonous thing every day. Every time your child has done something or maybe it’s been awhile since you treated him, surprise him with a gift. It doesn’t have to a large one, something simple like even a bar of chocolate would make him happy. The key aspect in here is the surprise part and not what the gift is.
‘Never ignore’ is a policy that should be adopted by all parents. Maybe it’s just nonsense that spilling out of your child’s mouth but it’s still your duty to hear it out. Never prioritize somebody else when your child is sharing her feelings as this will deeply hurt them. Rather than always telling them what to do and how to do it, listen to their side of the story too. Ask them about their day, school, friends and anything that will get them opening up a little.
4. Learn to apologize
You might do everything to teach your child ‘Thank you’ and ‘I’m sorry’ but it will never be the same if you don’t practice them yourself. Even as adults, we tend to do mistakes. Rather than brushing them off in front of your child, apologize to them if it something that concerns them. It can something as small as you breaking their pencil because you sat on it, don’t just laugh it off, apologize and they’ll feel that you genuinely care about them.
5. Give them space
It might sound like the most bizarre thing - giving your child space when you actually want them to be closer to you, but it’s the best thing you can do in certain situations. It’s important you identify such situations and do as required. Maybe your children are having a fight, it’s not necessary for you to interfere every time, let them figure it out themselves.
We hope the eternal bond you have with your child flourishes with age and brings you joy and happiness!
