With the changes in the type of work, people sit more throughout the day than they stand. And that is probably one of the major reasons why everyone has some illness or the other. Although, sitting down while working makes it easier and comfortable, sitting down for a prolonged time, however, can have certain impacts. 1. It tends to shorten your life
You’re more likely to die earlier from any cause if you sit for long stretches at a time. It doesn’t help if you exercise every day or not. So, even if you are working and you have a bunch load of work, it is always advised to stand up and take a walk every now and then in order to keep the blood flowing properly.
2. You are more likely to get diabetic
It has actually been found that people who sit for long periods of time are more likely to get diabetes than the people who stand up every now and then. It has been seen that sitting for prolonged periods of time can actually change the way insulin reacts in your body. And that, in turn, can make you more diabetic.
3. Back is affected in a bad way
The seated position puts huge stress on your back muscles, neck, and spine. It’s even worse if you slouch. Look for an ergonomic chair which means it’ll be the right height and support your back in the proper spots. But even with that, you still can’t sit at the same place for a prolonged time because that is definitely going to affect you in a bad way.
4. Can lead to varicose veins
Another drawback of sitting down for long periods is that more blood is likely to pool in your legs. This might put more pressure on your veins and they can swell, bulge or even twist. Though they are not serious generally, you should probably take care of it and talk to a doctor.
5. You are more likely to have cancer
The more and longer you sit in one go, the higher your chances are of getting colon, endometrial or even lung cancer. Women especially can increase their chances of getting breast cancer. And this does not get affected by how active you are. It is affected by how much and for how long you sit.
