Here’s a list of 5 of the most influential Indian women that are making a huge impact on the society:
1. Chanda Kochhar, CEO, ICICI Bank
Chandra Kochhar was born in Jodhpur and raised in Jaipur. She graduated with a master’s in management studies and joined ICICI bank in 1984 as a management trainee. Owing to her amazing talent, she gradually climbed up the ladder and became the CEO of the company. She has been showered with multiple honours and awards for putting ICICI on the global map. Starting right from being in the list of Forbes most powerful women in the world for every year since 2005 to being honoured with Padma Bhushan, Chanda Kochhar is surely one of the most prominent people on this planet.
2. Indra Nooyi, CEO, PepsiCo
In 2006, Indra Nooyi became the CEO of the second largest food and beverage business in the world, PepsiCo. In 2015, she ranked second in the fortune’s most powerful women list. Born and brought up in Chennai, Indra Nooyi went on to graduate with honours from IIM, Calculate and Yale school of management. After joining Pepsi, she was instrumental in bringing out some major changes in the company. She is considered a tycoon and is always present on the Forbes’, fortune’s and TIME’s most influential people list.
3. Roshni Nadar Malhotra, CEO, HCL Enterprise
Executive director and CEO of HCL Enterprises, Roshni Malhotra is the only daughter of HCL founder, Shiv Nadar. After doing her MBA from the Kellogg school of business, she joined her dad’s company and within a year, became the CEO. She is also a trustee for non-profit organization, Shiv Nadar foundation that runs Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai. She was also awarded the ‘Philanthropist of the year’ award by NDTV and Vogue India and ranked 57th in the Forbes list of most powerful women in the world.
4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairman, Biocon Limited
A billionaire entrepreneur, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is the chairman and managing director of Biocon, a biotechnology company based out of Bangalore. Her father who used to be the head brewmaster at united breweries urged her to study fermentation science. She did just that being the only women in 1974 to have been enrolled in brewery course in the university and later went to switch jobs between Melbourne, Kolkata and Baroda. She met with the CEO of Biocon biochemicals, Ireland and agreed upon branching out the company to India. Despite many struggles, she made it an extremely profitable business. Inspired by providing healthcare to third world countries, she came up with extremely affordable alternatives. Now, she is the sole owner of Biocon limited and the company’s profits are growing at an exponential rate.
5. Suneetha Reddy, MD, Apollo Hospitals
Almost all of us have heard of Apollo Hospitals. Its reach extends over 140 countries having treated more than 50 million people. She played an important role in bringing the first FDI to India’s healthcare system. She majored in financial management and research and completed the president management program at Harvard Business School. Despite the various challenges that were thrown the company’s way, she managed to hold the hospitals' group on top and to this date, Apollo remains the go-to medical service institute for anything and everything.
