5 Foods To Reduce Gas During Pregnancy

Having gas troubles as an expecting mum? Don’t worry! It is completely normal for expecting mums to experience this when pregnant. It happens because of the release of progesterone, which relaxes muscles in your body, including your intestines. You can of course prevent it by chewing slowly and avoiding fruit and other gas-inducing foods.

Here are some foods that can help reduce the gas.

1. Water

It helps to sip on fluids throughout the day. To make sure you don’t swallow too fast and cause gas, heat your drink, whether it is water, tea, coffee or soup. These fluids aid digestion and thus, reduce bloating and flatulence. If you drink a lot of juice, avoid drinking it with a straw. 

It is always best to opt for water instead of aerated or artificially sweetened drinks that cause gas. 

2. Oats

Oats contain a lot of soluble fibres that help with the digestion process. Fibre helps maintain regular bowel movements. By avoiding constipation, you can keep gas and bloating at bay.

3. Flaxseed

Consuming a handful of flaxseeds helps with maintaining a proper bowel movement. Too much of it can cause indigestion. It is commonly known to cure constipation and gas in pregnant women. You can add this to a salad or a sandwich too and see the difference.

4. Peppermint

Peppermint oil has a lot of health benefits. Whether you have it in the form of tea or just a drop or two in water, it works wonders in relieving constipation and gas problems.

5. Chamomile

Chamomile is particularly useful in easing digestive stress. It helps break down fats and eliminate toxins. It can help with gastritis and inflammation. It even helps prevent ulcers. It is best to brew some chamomile tea and let it sit for 15 minutes before drinking to reap maximum benefits.
