Becoming parents is a delightful experience. Every couple in the world wishes that someday, they will be blessed by a baby who will change their entire world. It will be fun, joy and smiles all around forever. However, that is not always true. Babies change the world of their parents for good, but they come with their challenges. Parents are not only required to do troublesome baby chores, but they also face major hurdles in their relationship.
Here is a look at the most common “new parent” conflicts and how to deal with them.
1. Less ‘Us’ Time
With continuously being busy in doing baby chores, parents often find a dreadful lack in the quality time they used to spend together. Now, with your baby demanding constant attention and needing sharp monitoring 24x7, parents find it hard to get any time together to share their feelings, doubts, insecurities, happiness, bliss, or their baby experiences (good and bad). This communication gap may become large, after a while, and can also be the reason for petty fights in the future. It is important that you to try your best to spend some time with your partner and share all the little things that you used to do before the baby was born. Tell your partner what they mean to you. Go out on lunch dates. Watch your favorite movie or TV show together.
2. Clashing Parenting Techniques
Your baby is the most precious person in your life and you love them more than anything in the world. However, you often forget that your partner is also a parent of your baby and loves him or her as much as you do. So, when you do not approve of the little things your partner does or suggests when it comes to parenting your child, it can lead to clashes and fights. It is important that both of you understand that the other parent loves the baby as dearly as you do, and the ultimate motive of anything you do should be in the best interest of the baby.
3. Sleepless Nights
Lack of sleep is one of the greatest challenges new parents face. This is one of the most troublesome and genuine challenges faced by the new parents and makes them irritable and cranky. It is crucial to understand that proper sleep is essential for the proper functioning of the body. To get good sleep, both parents can take rounds to take care of the baby at night and tend to the baby whenever he or she starts crying or needs something. You can devise a schedule as per the baby’s time table, and can divide the activities accordingly to suit your own schedules.
4. No Physical Intimacy
A newborn baby can be a big full stop to your sex life if you are not careful. With the baby sleeping right next to you, sex is something you cannot probably even think of. Also, when things seem to be spicing up the night and you’re getting ready to share an intimate moment, you hear your baby crying out loud and your current mood is gone. Physical intimacy is crucial for couples to connect and reconnect, and finding ways to express it outside the bedroom is essential to overcome and make up for its lack.
5. Balancing Work Life and Parenting
A baby can also puts a temporary stop in your career. A mothers’ work life is affected the most and many moms start thinking of giving up their career for the baby. Balancing a job and a baby is no easy thing to do. Firstly, you should not hurry to get back to your job. Take your time and make full use of the maternity leave to rest and regain your health. It is important that your are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to resume work. Also, you may arrange with your spouse to work in shifts, so that a parent is always present with your baby.
