5 Baby Safety Mistakes Parents Tend To Make

Every parent wants their child to be safe and sound at all times. They go out of their way to ensure their safety is not compromised by installing smoke alarms, baby-proofing everything in their house and keeping any small and possibly ingestible items far out of reach from their kids. But, as is the case with all accidents, just a moment of carelessness is enough for everything to go wrong.

Here are the most common mistakes parents tend to make and what to do in these situations.

1. Leaving a baby alone in a bath tub

According to recent studies, this is the main cause of most baby deaths. Parents should never leave their babies in the bath tub for even a minute for whatever reason, be it a short call or someone at the door. If you plan to answer the door or call, take your baby out with you.

2. Overcrowding the sleeping area

In order to prevent SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), avoid crowding your baby’s cradle with stuffed toys, pillows or any other cushiony object that could potentially suffocate your child. In fact, when you put your baby to sleep, remove everything else from the cradle. Wrap your baby up in a single blanket, making sure the blanket does not come up to their neck, so they won’t pull it over their face.

3. Drinking hot liquids while holding your baby

Many people are not aware of this, but thousands of severe baby-scalding cases are being reported every year. So, before drinking your hot cup of tea, coffee or any other hot beverage for that matter, make sure to keep your baby as far away from you as possible. The problem with holding your baby while drinking a hot beverage is that you may accidently spill some when you trip over something or get startled by something. This could cause some serious and even fatal burns on your baby.

4. Not checking temperature of the water

If you are giving your baby a shower, be sure to check the temperature of the water coming from the faucet yourself. If the water is not going to stay the same throughout, it is better to collect some in a bucket before bathing your child. Your baby’s skin is a lot more sensitive to temperature than our own skin. So, it could leave some burns on their skin.

5. Putting the baby in the front seat instead of the backseat

In case of an accident, airbags would protect adults in the front seat against the impact and save our lives. The very same life-saving airbags could cause some serious damage even to a 10 year old child’s neck and spinal cord. So, these airbags would be fatal to infants. This is why it is best to keep your child in the back seat rather than the front seat.

As long as you keep these things in mind, your kid would be safe. Please do share this article with all parents and children you care about.
