You might be excited at the prospect of introducing solids into your baby’s diet and are probably looking at all the healthy things you can feed your infant. While this is important, it is also equally essential to look into foods that should be avoided at least until your baby’s a little older.  

Here’s a list of few such foods.

1. Honey

This seemingly harmless food item is actually more dangerous than you think. It consists of spores of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum which can multiply in the intestine and cause infant botulism. You can start feeding your child honey only if s/he’s more than a year old because the intestine would’ve developed by then.

2. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds don’t dissolve in the mouth so they’re potential choking hazards for your little one. Apart from this, your baby might also be allergic to some of them. So it’s better to wait it out until your child’s a little older.

3. Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are acidic in nature. This might cause terrible rashes all over your baby’s skin. But there have been cases in which parents have fed their babies with oranges and found no allergic reaction. So if you want to try it, just be careful and be on the lookout for any sort of reaction from your child.

4. Raw vegetables

Because of the size and the firmness of raw vegetables, they’re difficult for your baby to swallow and might get stuck in the throat. Before feeding any vegetable, boil it till it softens and then mash it to make into a puree that is easy for your baby to eat.

5. Cow’s milk

Cow’s milk contains proteins and minerals that are hard for your infant to digest. So until your baby turns a year old, breast milk or formula milk are the ones to go for.
