Erectile dysfunction is a condition where the man is unable to develop or maintain an erection during sex. Though it may be hard to diagnose whether you have ED or not, medical professionals claim that a failure to develop an erection 50% or more of the times you’ve tried, is enough of a symptom of erectile dysfunction.

An erectile dysfunction is more than just a punch in the gut or cause of embarrassment for some men, it actually does have some connection with a man’s overall health. ED’s can be a result of hormonal imbalance, depression, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, a symptom of hypertension or high blood pressure, prostate cancer, or even have associations with a neurological disorder. However, as mentioned above, things like stress and lifestyle habits also cause ED. Which is why before considering medication, try considering a change of lifestyle. A decrease in alcohol intake is known to be extremely beneficial. A cut in the number of cigarettes smoked in a day also helps your chances of avoiding ED. Anxiety and depression causes ED as well and treatment processes of psychotherapy are advised to men who experience this. Increase in regular exercise and weight loss is a good way to start. Whatever your situation may be, so consult a doctor before intake of medication.

4. Side effects of medication

Men who resort to consumption of Viagra, Levitra or Cialis to cure their ED often have to face several side effects. These include cases of upset stomachs, nasal congestions, headaches, dizziness, vision changes and the likes. Injections to induce erections also cause a variety of side effects such as acne in men, frequent urination, breast enlargement or pains in the penis.

Men with low blood pressure or a history of strokes are advised to avoid such medication as their side effects could be more severe in nature. In such cases, the option of natural or herbal medication is always available.
