Birthday’s are more exciting and important to you than your little one, who can barely register what the chaos is all about. It’s very important to have the right kind of food at the party, to keep the kid company happy and satisfied. It’s best to stick to finger food as it’s probably a bad time to experiment. Follow these easy recipes for mouthwatering dishes to make each birthday as memorable as the next.
1. One Bowl Vanilla Cupcakes
Set the oven at 350F. In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of all purpose flour, one and a half cups of sugar, two and a half teaspoons of baking powder and one teaspoon of salt. In a mixing bowl, add half a cup of shortening, along with three fourth of a cup of milk, two eggs and one tablespoon of vanilla. Beat this at a medium speed of the mixer. Pour the final mixture into paper lined muffin tins till they are three-fourth full. Bake for 21 minutes and test the cupcakes with a chopstick when you feel they’re ready. Avoid overbaking as they go dry. Let it cool well before frosting.
2. Fruit Skewers
These are always a huge hit with children as well as adults. They are extremely easy to make and a pleasant sight to the eyes. Pick a combination of 4 fruits that go well together and chop them into pieces of the same size. Perhaps you could experiment with strawberries, grapes, bananas and pineapples. Poke a hole through them with a toothpick and watch the barbeque like magic come alive. If you feel the toothpicks are too dangerous for kids, you could substitute it with blunt ice cream sticks. Serve with apple sauce for flavour.
3. Cheesy Mini Burgers
This requires the usual for a burger, patties, a few vegetables and bun bread. Take the minced meat, onions and sauces and mix in a bowl. After a good mix, take a handful of the mix and pat them down to a patty shape. Pour some oil in a pan and let it heat. Fry the patties on the pan till cooked. Apply some butter on the bread and let it sizzle till light brown. When the required colour is obtained, apply some tomato paste or mustard on the sides of the bread and place a patty in between. Top it with cheese and grill till the cheese melts depending on the preference.
4. Pizza rolls
Pizza is always welcome. Preheat the oven to 375F. Take the refrigerated dinner rolls after thawing and flatten them out till the obtain the desired shape. Apply some tomato sauce or pizza sauce on the surface. Garnish with some grated or cubed cheese and place the meat on it. Add another layer of cheese as a finishing touch. Place in the oven and cook for about 15 minutes till the rolls have a golden-ish tinge to it.
