3 Fruits To Strictly Avoid During Pregnancy and Why

Fruits are high in fibre which helps to maintain and control your digestive system. They also contain many vitamins and minerals that are essential for your baby’s development and your overall health. But there are certain fruits that you should avoid having. We have listed them below along with the reasons why they are harmful.    


You should avoid having grapes if you have digestive problems because grapes have a thick skin which is quite difficult to digest and can cause constipation. Also, the skin contains resveratrol which is harmful to pregnant ladies who have hormonal imbalances. Resveratrol poisoning can cause complications during the later stages of the pregnancy.

Raw Papaya

Unripe papaya or semi-ripe papayas contain papain enzyme which is harmful during pregnancy and can lead to a miscarriage. Raw papayas are also rich in latex which triggers uterine contractions. Ripe papaya, however, is highly beneficial and does not contain these harmful enzymes. In fact, ripe papayas in moderation are actually great for pregnant women.


Pineapples have a high sugar content and should be avoided especially during the initial stages of pregnancy. It contains bromelain which is an enzyme that can weaken the cervix and cause premature labour or a miscarriage. It may even cause uterine contractions which are harmful to the now growing uterus.
