3 Factors To Consider When It Comes To Chemicals
“Recently, Tinystep had the pleasure of being invited to an event by Johnson & Johnson and Sincerely, Chemicals. We were educated about the how chemicals are present in everything, including an all natural banana. Here are the most important takeaways to consider when it comes to chemicals.”
Everything around us has chemical components present in them, including this all natural banana.
As soon as we hear the word chemicals, a very scary and bad image is formed in our mind. Yet, chemicals are needed for daily chores and are present everywhere around us.
A lot of products in the market are sold with a tag line “natural” or “chemical free”. This is not possible, as most products have chemical components.
Chemicals are even present in our own body. As an example, one of the highly corrosive acids, hydrochloric acid, is present in the human stomach and helps digestion. Our liver too secretes a lot of chemicals to help in the digestion process.
Hence, there are three things that matter when it comes to chemicals.
Almost all chemicals have both harmful and useful effects on the human body and it’s the dosage that matters. For example, drinking too little water causes dehydration, while drinking 6 litres in a short time during a day can be fatal. It’s the right amount of water (2L-3L, depending on your body) that is good for health.
2. Who is taking the chemical
While some types of chemicals in limited amounts will be extremely helpful for adults, the case might not be the same for infants and toddlers. For example, wine consumed in limited amounts is a good stimulant for adults, whereas it is not suitable for children in any quantity.
3. Method of exposure
The last factor responsible is the method of exposure to the chemical. Varied forms of exposure or contact will have varied effects. For example, drinking water in a reasonable quantity is good for health and water is useful. On the other hand, if the same amount of water is inhaled, it can be fatal. Antiseptics are useful and help heal when they are externally applied, but if you drink it, it will turn fatal.
In simple terms, everything around us can have both good and bad effects on us. Chemicals too, in proper quantity, help, while they harm when used in improper quantity. It’s the above 3 factors, which majorly determine whether the effect of a particular product or chemical will be hazardous or helpful.
