3 Amazing Finger Food Recipes For Your Baby

If you’ve started your baby on solid foods, you’ll be excited to explore the range of foods your child can enjoy instead of just milk. In the beginning, you will have to start with purees and mashed veggies and slowly move up to more complicated foods that your little one’s tummy can handle. But a plate full of food might not be what interests your child. Most children gravitate more towards finger foods because they’re fun and colourful. Here are a few finger foods recipes that will make your child salivate:

Beetroot rolls

Ingredients - ½ beetroot, ½ carrot, 1 onion, 1 spring onion, 2 boiled potatoes, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon of garam masala, 1 teaspoon of chaat masala, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, 2 tablespoon semolina, 3 to 4 bread slices, 1 teaspoon oil and salt to taste.

How to - 1. After heating up the oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.

2. Add the chopped onions and spring onions, saute them.

3. Cut the potatoes, grate the beetroot and the carrot. Mix them all together.

4. Add garam masala, chaat masala and the sauted onions to the mixture.

5. Wet a few slices of bread and after squeezing the excess water from it, you can add the slices to the above mixture.

6. Take a little bit of the mixture in your hands and roll them into desired shapes. Dip them in semolina to give a nice texture.

7. Deep fry them, and they’re ready to serve.

Broccoli nuggets

Ingredients - 1 Broccoli, bread crumbs (or baby cereal), 1 and half cups of cheddar cheese, 3 eggs or 5 egg yolks (if your baby is allergic to egg whites), olive oil, pepper (optional).

How to - 1. Cook the broccoli in water and then chop it into tiny pieces.

Combine all the ingredients(except olive oil) in a mixing bowl. If you’re a vegetarian, you can use a fruit or a veggie puree as a substitute for eggs.

2. You can use seasonings like pepper or oregano to give it a better flavour.

3. Make the mixture into nugget shapes and bake them in your microwave oven that is already preheated or you can also fry them in a pan using the olive oil.

4. And voila, they’re hot and ready to be served.

Ragi Balls

Ingredients - 1 kg of Ragi powder (Ideally it should be homemade and organic), ½ kg of pure ghee, 5 almonds, 5 cashews, powdered sugar cardamom powder.

How to - 1. Heat around 250 g of ghee in a pan on a low flame.

2. Add ragi powder to the ghee but instead of one go, do it slowly.

3. Roast the ragi powder till it turns dark brown. This might take about 45 minutes.

4. Add the remaining ghee, chopped almonds, chopped cashews and cardamom powder.

5. After frying for a few minutes, turn off the gas and allow it to cool.

6. Add powdered sugar and mix everything well.

7. Make round balls that resemble laddus using your hand. You can top them off with some icing to make it more visually appealing to your child.

All of these above-mentioned recipes are for babies that are closer to being a year old (9 months +) and not for ones that just started eating solid foods.
