10 Tips To Help Your Baby Gain Weight

All is well when your baby is well. But the moment you realize your baby lacks either nutrients or vitamins or anything that would affect his healthy growth, parents would definitely be in the spot of bother. Your baby being too thin or malnourished is no exception. So, here are a few tips to help your baby gain weight and let your baby have a cute and chubby appearance that everyone love.  

Breastmilk, formula milk or whole milk

Most of your baby’s nutrition needs are fulfilled by breast milk, formula or whole milk. If your baby is less than a year old, offer him 6 to 8 ounces of breastmilk or formula each day. If your child is at least a year old, offer him 5 servings of whole milk each day. Whole milk provides a higher amount of fat and calories than the reduced milk or semi-skimmed milk. Increasing fat in your baby’s diet encourages the weight gain of your baby.

Nurse often

If your baby is a distracted eater or a distracted nurser, nurse him often and make sure your baby gets sufficient amount of milk. Every baby is different. Find a method so that your baby is less distracted while feeding and concentrate on eating.

Full-Fat dairy foods

Just like the whole milk, all the full-fat dairy products contain beneficial fats and nutritious calories to help the baby gain weight. Full-fat shredded cheese or cottage cheese are baby-friendly dairy products that increase your baby’s calorie intake.

Infant oats to meals

Infant oats, along with providing extra fortified iron to your baby, also provides a few extra calories to your baby. When it is added to fruits, some thinner fruits becomes a little thicker and easier to feed. It helps in your baby’s weight gain regime.

Whole grains

Foods made with whole wheat or whole grains are not only healthy but also contain a good amount of calories. Some of the whole grains foods that you could include in your baby’s diet are Whole wheat flour pancakes, whole wheat bread toast, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal and cereals with whole milk.

High-calories fruits and veggies

Fruits and veggies are the major sources of nutrients your baby gets. Along with providing nutrients for building strong immunity and healthy growth of your baby, Some fruits and veggies also contain a significant amount of calories per serving and that helps your baby to gain weight. Some of the examples are Avocados, beans, pears and bananas.

Olive oil

One of the best ways your baby can gain weight is by oil intake. Although offering your baby the fatty foods is unhealthy and not recommended, helping your baby to gain weight by offering the fats in the form of omega-3s from special vegetable oil such as olive oil could be beneficial. Add a little bit of olive oil to the cooked veggies just before serving you little munchkin. It is a great way to help your baby gain healthy calories without your baby’s knowledge.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil aids in putting on weight when it is consumed by your baby along with the normal calorie intake. Give your baby a spoonful of coconut oil every day. This, along with providing other benefits, increases calorie intake and helps in gaining weight. 

No snacking

Snacking every now and then could reduce your baby’s intake of milk or dinner. Reduce the snack to one per day and make sure you provide sufficient time between snack time and dinner time so that your baby gets hungry and nurses properly or eats her entire meal.
