There are a lot of new things that you get to know in the course of your pregnancy. It can be new in terms of childbirth, delivery, post-delivery, etc. there are so many things that we still do not know but we read countless articles to make sure that we know everything and anything that is to know about babies, even before they are born. Having a baby in the house is absolutely tiring, hilarious and at the same time, the unique experience of your life. Here are a few things that you did not know about newborns:
1. Newborns look weird
Babies are just the cutest things on planet earth and hence we expect our little one to look like something out of a gorgeous picture the moment they are born. That might not be the case. Remember that they have been in the enclosed environment of your womb for the good part of a year and hence have every right to look like a beetroot, at least for a little while.
2. Baby acne
Yes, yes, yes. It is not just a problem that teenagers face. Newborns can have some acne and don’t you dare pick at them. These are pretty natural eruptions and go away before you even know and don’t worry; they do not hurt your little one, while they are there.
3. They love to be swaddled
This might seem to be quite the opposite of what you have observed, but trust us when we say that newborns absolutely love to be swaddled; this, prevents them from getting startled by their own reflexes and hence get a better and longer sleep.
4. They do not need a bath every single day
Does this make you want to be a baby again? Well, we might think that babies require a bath every day to keep them clean and in hygienic conditions, but this is not true. You can clean them up a little with a sponge or a towel, but a frequent bathing schedule may actually be harmful to their supple skin.
5. Cribs can wait
Transferring your little one to a huge bed after the womb can cause a little discomfort to them. Instead, shift them to a compact bassinet or co-sleeper. This would provide them with a cosier environment and ensure that they get a good sleep.
6. The better-known fact
Newborns are evidently helpless and inconsiderate and hence poop, pee and spit over practically everything. This can take you a little while to get used to, but once you’ve become a pro at parenting, it shouldn’t be much of a bother.
7. Nails = weapons of self-harm
It will break your heart to see your baby unconsciously scratching themselves with their spear-like nails. But fear not parents; you can clip these spears with safe baby clippers or put hand mittens on them if you don’t have the heart to bring a clipper near your baby.
8. Your little orange pumpkin pie
If your baby has a little orange hue when you get them home from the hospital, it is perfectly fine. Babies are, at times, born with mild jaundice which fades away in as less as 36 hours and is nothing to worry about.
Your newborn’s hair is probably going to fall out and that is normal. This happens because their neck and head muscles are still getting positioned and adjusted, which would take some amount of time, so, be patient and don’t panic.
10. It is okay to take them out
Most parents are under the myth that taking newborns out will lead to them catching some horrible germs which will further give rise to diseases, but this is not the case.
