Been talking to your pregnancy bump lately? Or has your husband been giving some advice to your to-be-champ or angel while talking to your bump? Well, it’s a common thing to talk to the unborn baby through mother’s belly. And the only reason we do this is because we believe that our little baby can actually hear us through all that skin and even understand us. This belief has actually been scientifically proven and now it's a fact that in preparing for their life outside the mother’s womb, the foetus actually starts practising some of the movements that they will need to sustain themselves including hearing voices.
To make your day even better, we bring to you a list of things that babies learn and even start doing in the womb itself.
One of the best facial expressions in human life, a baby starts smiling before they are even born. With the advancement in 4D technology, doctors have been able to see the womb and the foetus with even more clarity and they have noticed the little one smiling in the mother’s womb.
Where there is happiness, there is some sort of sadness and where there is smiling, there is always some crying as well. When a child is born, that is the only time when every parent wishes their child cries and they actually smile when the child does so for it is a sign of well-being. But this crying nature doesn’t come instantly. Research has shown that a baby starts crying while they are in their mother’s womb itself. But don’t worry, it's more of a practice thing rather than some problem.
3. Practice Breathing
No mortal human can live without breathing. It is one of the most important processes which is more of an involuntary process. But did you ever think how a newborn is able to breathe when they haven’t even been told how to do it? Well actually, as per the new research, babies start practising the breathing pattern right when they are in the womb. Though it is the mother who breathes for them, in order to get oxygen into the bloodstream, it has been seen that the foetus starts practising breathing movements after nine weeks gestation itself.
4. Tasting the fluid
Another outstanding thing that the recent research has found out is that by as early as 13 weeks gestation, the baby develops strong taste buds and can actually tell the difference between different tasting foods and might have their own preferences as well. Maybe that’s why you have cravings for the foods you yourself dislike because it’s your child who wants to eat it.
5. The Dreams in Life
Dreaming in foetuses has always been a topic of debate among scientists and doctors for years. Does the child actually get REM sleep? Does the child actually dream? These are the type of questions that many doctors and scientists have been debating on. But, with the advancement in technology maybe we can answer these questions once and for all. Various sensors put around the pregnant woman’s womb have actually found that the baby does go through the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase of sleep and has thus proved that the foetus actually dreams.
6. Touch Sensitivity
Have you ever felt that as soon as you touch a part of your belly, there is a movement from inside the belly and it is so precise that it feels the baby is responding to your touch? Well, your suspicions have just been proven right. Research has found out that by 8 weeks of the gestation period, babies actually start responding to your touch and give you the appropriate response by moving their hand or legs. So when you touch your child from outside, they can actually feel it.
7. The language filter
Ever heard the story of Abhimanyu- Arjun’s son who learnt how to penetrate the Chakravyuha while being in his mother’s womb? We are sure you have heard it. But did you ever think of how Abhimanyu was able to understand Arjun even before he was taught the language? We might have an answer for you. It has been seen in the latest reports that the baby is actually able to filter out certain sounds from outside and determine the language of his/her mother thereby being able to understand what his/her mother or someone else is saying.
8. Hearing everything
The one thing you have been waiting to read about. Yes, it is really true. Science has proven that your little baby can actually hear your voice and understand all you are saying. Though when they grow up they don’t remember it but you can actually have an entire conversation with them and they will understand it too. Research has found that by 20-week gestation, babies are able to hear sounds properly while in the mother’s womb and by week 27 they even start reacting to the sounds.
9. Already an explorer?
Humans are inquisitive beings by nature and this feature is in our DNA. So like everyone else, babies too have this inquisitive nature and start exploring their surroundings. It was already proven that babies open their eyes in the womb, they also feel and see their own limbs, their surroundings and the different body parts of the mother.
10. Bonding with mommy
The closest connection a human being has with another human is the connection between a mother and her unborn baby. Besides being the physical connection it is also an emotional connection that both the mother and the child feel. Everything the mother feels is directly transferred to the baby be it happiness, sadness, laughter, anger or even crying. This connection is so strong that the yet to be born’s mood also changes itself depending on the mood of his/her mother’s mood.
