A child’s personality depends on the values and manners he/she learns from his/her parents. As such, it is the responsibility of both the mother and father to inculcate the values and teach their kids all the good manners that will help them grow up to be better people.
Few manners are important to such an extent that they are probably the fundamentals of manners. Some of them are listed here.
1. The magic word “Please”
One of the most basic things to teach your child is to say 'please'. It’s important that a child knows how to properly request for something from someone, so that he/she does not come out as a person who is rude or orders people around.
2. Mistakes and “Sorry”
Everyone in life makes mistakes. It’s part of the learning process. But accepting your mistake and apologising is something, which should be learnt by everyone. Teach your child to say 'Sorry' and they will be thankful for it.
3. Acknowledgement by “Thank You”
Humans are social animals and thereby, interact with other humans and take their help. Hence, it is important to acknowledge the help given and appreciate it by saying 'thank you'. Every child should know how to say thank you whenever someone does something for them.
4. Respect everyone
It’s often said that, “Respect is not something you demand, but something you earn.”, and the best way to earn respect is to first give respect. The moment your child is able to respect the people around him/her, they will become the most respectable people.
5. Politeness can take you places
Its human nature to be aggressive, yet it’s not our aggressiveness that takes us through life, but our politeness. Simply put, the more the people genuinely like you, the more you will have chances to succeed.
6. Honesty is the best policy
Honesty doesn’t just relate to what you speak, but also what you do. An honest person never has to hide from anyone or anything and lives life with his/her head held high.
7. Never use foul language
Using foul language does not just decrease another person's respect for you, but also spoils your tongue and your way of speaking. Teaching your child to not use foul language is indeed very important, especially at a stage when they are learning. It is also a good idea to not use foul words yourself in front of them.
8. The greed of all people
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.” As parents, you would know from experiences what greed does to a person and thus, teaching your child to not be greedy is very important.
9. Always be humble and kind
It’s always important to grow and be successful, but truly successful are the ones who are able to stay humble even after gaining success beyond their own dreams. Also, it’s the duty of all parents to teach their children to be humble and kind to others.
10. Help the people around you
Helping someone in need is something every parent should teach their child. It not only helps them be kind and respectful, but there is also a high chance that they may learn something new.
Every parent wants what’s best for their child and they strive to make their children better in every way. Teaching manners to children is also one of the most important things that every parent should do. It will help your child become better every day.
