10 Toxic Everyday Things That May Cause Breast Cancer
Breast cancer develops in the cells of the breast, growing out of control, resulting in lump formation that can be felt or seen in x-rays. It occurs much more in women, but men can develop this disease too. Here are top 10 things that you should immediately stop doing or rectify, that may otherwise put you at risk of developing breast cancer
Smoking has been associated with a large number of diseases, including several types of cancer, heart disease, lung disease, fertility issues, pregnancy complications, dental problems, high cholesterol, poor vision, etc. It even results in premature aging. All in all, we can’t stress enough on how bad smoking is for the human body. Specifically, for breast cancer, it puts younger, premenopausal women at a higher risk of developing the disease.
2. Alcohol Consumption
Research has shown that consumption of alcoholic beverages increases a woman’s chances of developing hormone receptor positive breast cancer. A glass of wine here or a pint of beer there won’t harm your body, if you don’t already have some medical condition. But excessive consumption of alcohol, especially hard alcohol may put you at the risk of developing breast cancer, and several other diseases or disorders. Keep your drinking in moderation!
3. Toxic Cosmetics
Cosmetics are loaded with a large number of chemicals, including parabens, lead, coal tar, phthalates and petroleum. When these cosmetics are applied to your skin, they penetrate it and mix with your blood stream, get accumulated inside your body over time and put you at the risk of developing not only breast cancer, but other cancers also. Switch to organic brands of cosmetics to avoid this situation
4. Being Overweight
Not maintaining a healthy weight has been linked with several diseases, including breast cancer. Research has shown women who are overweight, or have a BMI of over 25 have been more susceptible to this disease.
5. Eating Unhealthy Food
About 30-40% of all cancers are associated with unhealthy food habits. Also, food grown with pesticides puts you at a higher chance of developing this particular disease. Try to have a balanced diet with fruit, vegetable and other nutrient rich food to have a healthy life.
6. Hormone Replacement Therapy
Women who take hormone replacement therapy to ease the symptoms of menopause are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer. If you are already on this therapy, consult your doctor and if you’re not, ask your doctor for all the options that are available for any discomfort you may feel during your menopause.
7. Pregnancy History
Women who give birth after 30 years of age have a greater chance of developing breast cancer than those who gave birth before 30 years of age. Also those who didn’t have a full term pregnancy have a higher tendency of developing the disease.

Women who breastfeed, especially for a year or longer are at a lower risk of developing the disease. This is because they have lesser periods and hence lower levels of estrogen for a longer duration.

Lack of exercise has been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer. Women who exercise regularly at a moderate or intense pace 4 days or more a week are less likely to develop the disease. Time to put on some activewear and hit the gym!
